Mens Suede Jackets

Mens suede jackets have been around for a very long time, and although their designs may change, their appeal remains constant.

Suede is a nappy kind of leather that is made from the underside skin of a lamb, pig, calf, or deer. Suede that has a shaggy nap is usually made from the thick hide of a cow or deer. Suede is not made from the tough part of the animal hide and results is a much less durable leather. It is softer and more pliable than the standard leather and is therefore used for more delicate apparel.

Originally, suede was used to make ladies’ gloves. Men’s suede jackets come in a small variety of styles although there is one popular standard style. The style we refer to is the loose brown jacket with a collar and front opening that closes with either, buttons, ties or a zipper. The jacket will most often have a long fringe at the hemline.

The more contemporary mens suede jackets are of a similar style without the fringe and usually are buttoned down. The loose fitting style is sometimes called a blazer and comes in many colors. The most sought after color is brown but it can be had in white, blue black, gold and more.

The most popular suede jacket comes in green and is given to the winner of the masters golf tournament. Tiger Woods has a closet full of green suede jackets and he truly earned them.

Another style of mens suede jackets is the fitted jacket. This jacket is made to fit the body of its wearer. It is usually cut somewhat low in the front without a collar or with just a small cowl type collar, and has buttons from mid chest to the hemline. The style is very much like the red and gold suede jacket that was the signature apparel for Michael Jackson.

Suede is frequently seen in mens bomber jackets or the flight style jacket. This type of jacket is shorter than the loose fitting jacket and tight at the waist with either a leather band or a knitted cuff at the wrist of the sleeve.

For convenience all of the mens suede jackets have more than the standard amount of pockets. They appear on each side of the chest, in the seam of the jacket, inside in the lining of the jacket, and now they have a pocket to accommodate a cell phone. Most of the more contemporary styles are zippered as opposed to buttoned.

For men who prefer the vintage look, they can buy a retro long fringed jacket from a vintage clothier or buy one made in Mexico. This loose fitting jacket is made in the style of the 1950’s with a long fringe at the hemline and buttoned down.
The retro jackets circa 1970 were made like the style of the 50’s without the fringe and slightly fitted. The retro jackets come in two colors, brown and black.

There are plenty of mens suede jackets to choose from whatever your purpose, style, or taste.
